Snowfall predictions.

The Toledo forecast issued at 6:48 a.m., predicted 4 to 9 inches of snow to fall between 11:00 p.m. tonight and 1:00 a.m. Saturday. 26 hours.

The Winter Storm Watch issued at 3:05 a.m. predicted 5 to 7 inches.

A new update to the Winter Storm Watch was issued at 7:23 a.m., and it predicts 5 to 8 inches of snowfall.

I'll guess 4 to 5 inches.

I think that our biggest single snowfall to date occurred on Christmas Eve when around 3.5 inches of snow fell. This winter, we have experienced numerous small 1 to 2 inch snowfalls.

This week, it snowed on Sun, Mon, Tue, and Wed, totaling a few inches.

I like the cold (temps below 20 degrees) more than the big snowfalls and up and down temps like in 2013-2014. That way the snow that falls stays on the ground longer.

area forecast discussion
national weather service cleveland oh
415 am est thu feb 8 2018

.synopsis...
high pressure will move across the upper ohio valley today, then
move off the mid atlantic coast tonight. this will allow a front
to sag south of lake erie tonight. the front will oscillate
across the forecast area through the weekend.

&&

.near term /until 6 pm this evening/...
high pressure centered over the mid mississippi valley will
slide slowly east today and will be centered over ohio by this
evening. scattered light snow showers will continue this morning
into this afternoon as a weak surface trough swings across the
forecast area. little or no additional accumulation is expected
today. all snow will come to an end this afternoon as high
pressure builds in from the west. temperatures will remain well
below normal for today.

&&

.short term /6 pm this evening through monday/... the high will
shift east and move off the mid atlantic coast overnight. this
will allow a boundary to move into the central lakes overnight.
models continue to sag the boundary south of lake erie
overnight. best dynamics for heavy snow will be in dtw and iwx
forecast area as a 120 knot jet tracks across the central lakes.
best chance for heavy snow will be lucas county so posted a
watch for tomorrow night into friday. did not go with a warning
because still enough doubt as to how far south the front will
sag.

snow will taper off friday night as the first wave of low pressure
departs across the eastern great lakes. most areas will see a break
in precipitation on saturday morning as ridging starts to develop
aloft. deeper moisture spreading north from the gulf will move
through the ohio valley saturday afternoon and saturday night but
generally expected to remain south of the area. light precipitation
remains possible overhead as the baroclinic zone tightens across
northern ohio, also a factor that will make precipitation type tricky
over the weekend. low levels expected to warm enough in ne ohio on
saturday for precipitation to be rain, while nw ohio will be in the
colder air with light snow continuing.

by sunday models show considerable spread with respect to storm
track as low pressure from the gulf crosses the tennessee valley
then shifts to the east coast. the 00z ecmwf is the farthest north
with the low passing near pittsburgh. this solution would be much
warmer with more of the area changing over to rain. the forecast
calls for snow in the north and a rain/snow mix in the south and
this will need to be adjusted as confidence increases in storm
track. precipitation will taper off quickly on sunday night as deep
layer dry arrives from the west with surface high pressure expanding
overhead. temperatures trend cooler with lows in the teens sunday
night and highs ranging from the upper 20s to lower 30s on
monday.

&&

.long term.../monday night through wednesday/...

a broad trough sets up west of the area to start the extended
periods. low pressure is again expected to track northeast from the
gulf coast during the mid-week time frame but considerable
uncertainty remains in both storm track and timing. southwesterly
flow ahead of the system will push most areas a few degrees above
normal on tuesday, trending colder by thursday behind the front.
will keep pops low in the tues-wed time frame until confidence
increases on precipitation potential.

&&

.aviation /06z thursday through monday/...
flurries will gradually end from the west this morning as high
pressure moves into the lower lakes. snow will move in from the
west overnight effecting mainly nw oh and the northern tier
locations near lake erie. front will lift north of forecast
area friday but then sag south again as a cold front saturday.

outlook.../non vfr in -sn to continue on and off through the
weekend.

&&

.marine...
southwest winds increase to 15-20 knots on lake erie today as high
pressure over the midwest builds into the ohio valley. winds will
decrease tonight and generally be 15 knots or less into next week as
a series of troughs moves northeast through the ohio valley.
